I'll be frank. CCP, you offer a service and your player base is your client.
Let's say I work for a company called, "Compy-A". This company offers construction projects to clients. The division of the company that I work in deals with bridges. We have talked City X into building a new bridge on Main Street that crosses a major interstate. The city gets excited about the project. That small two lane bridge is not big enough to handle current traffic lately and needs to be widened. I tell them we will keep them up to date on the project from time to time with a presentation on the progress and things to expect. The project starts off and the project runs into problems now and then. It's been a tough road but the city is still excited about the project. One day I tell the city that it is time for a new presentation. I let them get excited about seeing what new progress the bridge is making.
Then presentation day comes....
I open my presentation and talk about the progress that has been made recently. The city nods in agreement and smiles. I then start pitching a bridge project on the out skirts of town. Some of the city counsel nods, while some are confused. I finish my short pitch on this new project and then mention nothing about the current bridge. Later, I am asked about the bridge on main street. I tell the city that we are still working on it but some of the road will never be finished, even though that is what I sold the city.
Do you still think I have a job at Compy-A?
CCP, you should at very least apologize for that poor showing presentation. If you plan to still develop for Dust 514 you showed us nothing indicating any plans for the future. You showed us no pictures, you showed us no concept art, and you told us nothing coming down the pipe line for Dust. All you showed us was another project that you are just now starting... Some people that went to Fan Fest payed a lot of money to travel there to get excited about upcoming content and you gave them nothing but a message that you wasted your time. It is very unprofessional and insulting to your client (the players) to give them something they did not pay for and give them no explanation on why.
I am not against a Dust 514 port for the PC but the way this has been handle is a shame. You shouldn't tell us that, "We are still developing Dust," and show us nothing after a year since the last Fan Fest. That tells us you are not developing for it and moving on to this new project. |
